Matt Nadler is a Jewish believer in Jesus on staff with Word of Messiah Ministries (WMM). Coming to faith at a young age, he grew up in the Messianic Jewish movement, and in a family ministering to the Jewish people. He went on to college at UNC-Chapel Hill and after graduating with a BA in Religion, traveled to Israel for a year to learn Hebrew and volunteer at a community outreach in Eilat. In 2004, while enrolled at Southern Evangelical Seminary in Charlotte, NC, he came on with WMM, a ministry which presents the Good News of Messiah to the Jew first, doing this through Jewish outreach, equipping and discipleship of believers, development and training of leaders, and planting Messianic congregations. He acquired a Masters Degree in Philosophy in 2008, and currently serves as Director of Publications at WMM. His desire is to serve in Israel, teaching apologetics in a Jewish context.

We are partnering with Ravi Zacharias International Ministries (RZIM) to host a week-long conference from May 29-June 4 entitled Foundations of Apologetics. The emphasis of the conference is on Christian apologetics, which is the branch of Christian theology that seeks to address the intellectual obstacles that keep people from taking the Gospel of Jesus Christ seriously. The conference will address the intellectual objections to the Christian faith presented by skeptics in universities, the media, and the arts and is intended for church leaders, teachers, college students, thoughtful laypersons, and sincere skeptics who are processing doubts about Christianity. RZIM, founded by Ravi Zacharias, has for over 25 years had a presence all over the world and in numerous universities, notably Harvard, Princeton, and Oxford University. Their main focus is towards worldwide evangelism undergirded by apologetics, reaching the thinker and opinion makers of the world. Erik Dubasak, the senior pastor of Grace Community Church, interned for six weeks with RZIM at their headquarters in Atlanta in 2010 as part of his seminary training. In bringing RZIM to Ormond Beach, Erik says, “We invited RZIM because we long for people who are Christian to have a deeper understanding of their faith and those who have objections to be challenged to think differently about Christ and the answers He provides to life’s deepest questions. There is no ministry that does this more effectively than RZIM.”The conference will feature two keynote speakers. Representing RZIM and speaking twice on Sunday, May 29 is John Njoroge (pronounced Jarogee), a native of Kenya and graduate of Talbot School of Theology where he majored in philosophy, theology, and New Testament studies. He is currently working towards a Ph.D. in philosophy at the University of Georgia and his passion is to help clear the fog between the academy and the local church. He also teaches regularly at the RZIM Summer Institute at Oxford and Wheaton College. The second keynote speaker to speak the evening of Saturday, June 4 is Paul Copan, who currently holds the Pledger Family Chair of Philosophy and Ethics at Palm Beach Atlantic University and is the current president of the Evangelical Philosophical Society. He served as a writer and researcher for RZIM for five years and has spoken at many university campuses, including Harvard, Yale Divinity School, and Georgetown University. He is also the author of several books, which include True for You, But Not for Me, That"s Just Your Interpretation, and Is God a Moral Monster? Understanding the Old Testament God. As for the remainder of the conference, the dates of May 30-June 3 will feature a 12-part curriculum that addresses such issues as the historical reliability of the Bible, the uniqueness of Christ, the problem of evil, and the existence of God. These courses will be taught by the Truth, Evangelism and Apologetics Mission (T.E.A.M.), which is a ministry comprised of students and alumni of Southern Evangelical Seminary. Their specialty is to help those in the church acquire the tools necessary to think critically about their faith and engage other worldviews.

While Sunday morning worship fulfills the believer’s call to corporate discipleship, there is also another personal side to discipleship. This component involves the need for a younger believer to discuss their unique needs to a more mature believer. In a sense, this is more like “spiritual parenting,” as modeled by Paul and his companions in 1 Thessalonians 2:7-12 where it says: "But we proved to be gentle among you, as a nursing mother tenderly cares for her own children. Having so fond an affection for you, we were well-pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become very dear to us… You are witnesses, and so is God, how devoutly and uprightly and blamelessly we behaved toward you believers; just as you know how we were exhorting and encouraging and imploring each one of you as a father would his own children, so that you would walk in a manner worthy of the God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory."In order to facilitate this process, we intentionally offer small group studies where for these types of relationships to develop.

Christian evangelist Ravi Zacharias teaches that there are three levels of philosophy. Level 1 consists of academic and theoretical concepts. This level is often discussed and debated in universities and government institutions and then communicated to a mass audience through Level 2. Level 2 consists of such artistic mediums as painting, literature, music, drama, films, etc. Level 2 may be the most influential of the three levels in influening masses of people and their thinking. In fact, Scottish politician Andrew Fletcher understood this and once said, “Let me write the songs of a nation – I don’t care who writes its laws.” Level 3 is at the practical level and is referred to as “kitchen table conversation.” This is when Level 1 and Level 2 are discussed at bars, coffee shops, and homes and where people integrate the ideas passed to them into their lives. Many Christians don’t realize that in our culture one of the most powerful mediums shaping our culture and thinking is the artistic medium of film. More often than not, movies are intentionally taking ideas from Level 1 and attempting to persuade an audience that their worldview is best. Further, movies tell us a lot about our culture and provide us with a great way to understand it and then engage that culture for Christ. This monthly ministry will help movie lovers look at films they may not have considered from a faith perspective before to understand how movies communicate worldviews and messages.

Erik Dubasak was born in Parma, OH and raised in Andover, MA. He was educated at Wingate University and is in the process of completing his M.A. in Christian apologetics at Southern Evangelical Seminary. His ministry experience comes through Camp Lurecrest Ministries, Great Commission Bible Institute, Ravi Zacharias International Ministries, and several years of teaching on the secondary level at a private Christian school. Erik grew up in a part of the country where the dominant worldview is secular and did not provide a moral, intellectual, or spiritual framework that was either adequate in making sense of life or personally fulfilling. As a result, there was an emptiness inside that Erik tried to fill through pleasure, self-gratification, and lawlessness that, as the Bible says, leads to death (Rom. 3:23). Through this process, Erik found that only in Jesus Christ were life’s deepest questions adequately answered and life’s ultimate purpose found. Since discovering this, Erik desires to most significantly bring two things to the church. First, he emphasizes that the church is a place of learning. Many times Christians who really want to learn the Bible decide to go to Bible college or seminary. However, Erik believes that while going to school is helpful, the primary place where people learn the Bible ought to be the church. As a result, Grace Community church offers in-depth teaching that is meant to equip the believer for life and ministry. Second, the church is also a place of intimacy with God. While we need to learn the Bible, we also need to do so in the context of being intimate with God. Therefore, study needs to be accompanied with spiritual disciplines such as prayer, service, praise and worship, etc. Finally, Erik was married to his wife, Terrah, in 2006. They had their first child, Clementine Olivia, on November 26, 2010. They both enjoy reading, cooking (and eating too!), traveling, spending time with friends, and walks on the beach.

MISSION STATEMENT Grace Community Church exists to evangelize our city, equip the saints, and embrace people of all nations in authentic relationship through being rooted and grounded in Christ’s love.CORE VALUES Our core values are captured by two words, ROOT and FRUIT. THE ROOT: BELIEF IN THE GOSPEL The root of the Christian faith is the gospel message, which is the good news of eternal salvation through faith in Jesus Christ’s sacrificial life, death, and resurrection on our behalf. Through faith in the gospel, Jesus provides us access to the Father (Jn. 14:6) and sends the Holy Spirit (Jn. 15:26) to permanently indwell the believer (Jn. 14:16, Rom. 8:9; Eph. 1:13-14). People cannot properly relate to either the Father or the Holy Spirit without belief in Christ’s finished work on the cross. It is our core mission at Grace Community Church to connect people to this message of grace without drifting into institutionalized religion and following some other agenda. THE FRUIT: LIFE IN THE SPIRIT On Jesus’ final night with His disciples, He taught them saying, "I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me, and I in him, he bears much fruit; for apart from Me you can do nothing” (Jn. 15:5). Subsequent to faith in the gospel, God imparts the gift of the Holy Spirit to indwell and empower us to grow and bear spiritual fruit. In light of this, we offer opportunities for spiritual growth through things such as teaching, discipleship, evangelism, fellowship, prayer, praise, giving, and observing the ordinances of the Lord’s Supper and baptism. However, out of these things our main emphasis is on three: EVANGELIZING OUR CITY by communicating the gospel through word and deed EQUIPPING THE SAINTS through studying and practicing God’s Word EMBRACING PEOPLE OF ALL NATIONS through authentic relationshipEVANGELIZEChristianity believes that truth is knowable and absolute, that God exists, miracles are possible, and that the Scriptures are historically reliable. Yet, these issues are where Christians are being challenged everyday in universities, government institutions, the media, the workplace, and even our own homes. In order to defend the faith and articulate the gospel to our lost neighbors, our goal is to follow the Bible’s command to “demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God” (2 Cor. 10:5) and to “always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have” (1 Pt 3:15). We accomplish this by offering opportunities for and encouraging evangelistic training and outreach. We also support missionaries who are preaching the gospel “even to the remotest part of the earth” (Acts 1:8). EQUIPOur goal in the equipping process is not simply to transfer information, but to initiate deeper transformation in Christ. In the Bible, this equipping process is accomplished through two different types of discipleship, corporate and personal. We emphasize both at Grace Community Church. CORPORATE DISCIPLESHIP We take the Bible seriously and gather together to study it because it contains principles to live a life pleasing to the Lord in every way. Expect every message to communicate biblical truth in order to bring believers to maturity. PERSONAL DISCIPLESHIP While gathering together for times of study fulfills the believer’s call to corporate discipleship, there is also another personal side to discipleship. This component involves the need for a younger believer to discuss their unique needs to a more mature believer. In a sense, this is more like “spiritual parenting,” as modeled by Paul and his companions in 1 Thessalonians 2:7-12 where it says: But we proved to be gentle among you, as a nursing mother tenderly cares for her own children. Having so fond an affection for you, we were well-pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become very dear to us… You are witnesses, and so is God, how devoutly and uprightly and blamelessly we behaved toward you believers; just as you know how we were exhorting and encouraging and imploring each one of you as a father would his own children, so that you would walk in a manner worthy of the God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory. In order to facilitate this process, we intentionally offer small group opportunities for these types of relationships to develop. EMBRACEWe cannot divorce the importance of embracing others in personal relationship from discipleship and evangelism. We encourage our members to not only take time to become involved in small groups with other believers, but to also pursue meaningful relationships with sinners, regardless of their age or ethnicity, in order to demonstrate with their words and deeds the gospel of grace. Many of us have come through deep emotional, physical, or spiritual struggle, and by sharing our lives together in authentic relationship we can encourage others with stories of how God brought us through and thus be the healing community God has called us to be.
